I realized today that it has been a long time since I posted on my blog. I have been having back and leg pain for so long that I haven't felt much like sitting at the computer. My DD Beth suggested switching from ibuprofen to extra strength Aspirin. On Saturday I took 2 ASA at 6 hour intervals and was pain free all day. Yesterday I was down to 2 doses. I am still having a little hip pain from the arthritis but I can live with that. The back and leg pain sucked everything out of me as anyone with chronic pain knows. I am going to start doing Gi Gong with emphasis on the back and see if that will strengthen my muscles.

I am participating in a round robin for the first time. There are 6 of us in the group. This is my starting block. I am so excited to see what it will look like when it is done. The pink and blue look a little dull but they are actually much brighter.

MRI Results

Had my MRI on Saturday and saw the Orthopedist yesterday. He said that he was looking for something in my sacral bones but the MRI was negative. Now I am breathing a sigh of relief and will continue with the Chiropractor. Sunday I had no pain until after lunch and yesterday, only twinges. Hopefully this will pass too. Being in constant pain is physically draining. I now know what my daughter Beth lives with on a daily basis with ankle pain that cannot be resolved even though she has had surgery, physical therapy and nothing has improved.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

I have been spending a lot of time lately running around to doctors. I have been having hip pain since Christmas. As a retired nurse, I am a terrible patient and hate going to the doctor. The pain finally got so bad that I decided to see my
Chiropractor. He did some adjustments and has been hooking me up to electrodes for a couple of weeks. Sent me for some x-rays and they couldn't decide if I had a hairline fracture of my hip.
Yesterday I want to the orthopedist and he took more x-rays which were inconclusive and sent me for a CAT Scan. I was happy to hear that it was negative. Now he is planning an MRI of my spine. I have Osteoporosis and scoleosis, so I know that isn't going to come out great.
Did I mention that I hate going to the doctor?

What is the US Customs Agency Protecting us from? Quilters?

This was written by a fellow quilter on her blog. Her name is Daphne Greig. My difficulty is about my trip to Minneapolis for Market. I have been attending Market as an exhibitor since 1998 and most times travel from my home in Victoria, through Vancouver and on to the Market location. All Canadians travelling to the US are required to fill in a customs form. When travelling on business I always say that. This time was no different. I carry the quilt samples to be hung in my booth in my luggage. I guess I think it is safer that way than sending them by mail.

This time I was questioned as usual by the US Customs agent, he decided they needed more information and I was directed to another secure area to be further questioned by other officials. They were upset that I was taking my quilts with me, saying that there was no guarantee that I wouldn't just sell them and that I should have shipped them. The upshot was I was delayed for over an hour, missed my flights to Minneapolis and was forced to write on the front of my quilts with a felt pen provided by the agent. So, the word 'SAMPLE' now appears on 8 of my quilts. As you can imaging, this was very upsetting both to me and my business partner Susan (who had a different agent who wasn't concerned about what she was taking to the trade show, she made the flights and really wondered what had happened to me!)

So, from now on I will have to mail my quilts to Quilt Market and hope that they arrive safe and sound.

Snow, Snow and more Snow

Last night DD Jenifer and I shoveled out the driveway and the front walk at about 4:30 PM. We cleaned off the cars and thought we did such a good job. At that point there was at least 8 inches on the ground. When I went to bed at 10PM it was snowing like crazy again. Woke up this morning to at least 5 more inches and had to shovel all over again. The cars had ice under the snow and the doors were frozen shut. If anyone would love snow, they are welcome to come and get some. I would give it away for free. I am sick of it. The only good thing about it is that I look on the shoveling as good Cardio. Spring can't come soon enough. I think February is the longest month of the year. Okay, I guess that I have whined enough for today.

Was I happy when I woke up this morning. We had a forecast of 3-6 inches of snow and there was only a dusting on the ground. Am going to spend the day sewing and making stew for dinner. I am going to give biscuits a try. My biscuits usually come out like hockey pucks.

A new member of our family

This is our new family member. Her name is Molly, We adopted her from a lovely family who couldn't keep her. It is a long time since we had a dog. Our little Peppy had to be put to sleep quite a few years ago and I was a little leery about getting another dog. Molly seems very sweet tempered. She is about 5 years old and is making herself at home here.

Or if you see my quilt — just ask the person who has it if they would please give it back. I would just like my quilt returned. Sure, the quilt is small (only 22″ x 22″) and no, it hasn’t won any awards. But that’s not the point. The point is, I made that quilt and it is special to me. It was meant to be part of a collection that would help inspire many other quilters to create a quilt from precuts or scraps. It wasn’t yours to take. So please send it back. Think about how you would feel if someone took a quilt you had made. Not too good, am I right?

Paper Piecing Class

This is my first serious attempt at paper piecing. I usually have hated doing it. Our guild held a class on the Carol Doak method and I really loved it. This is called Snowflake and If you go into the Carol Doak website and Click on free patterns, you can download it. It is made up of four 9 patch blocks sewn together to form 1 large one.

I received a wonderful surprise in the mail today. A package from my Stitcher's Angel Anne who lives in Norway. The embroidery must have taken quite a long time. I have never seen stitches so tiny. She sent my 2 purses, a little pouch and a mini quilt. One of my favorite colors is Lavender and I just love everything that she sent me. It was a really fun swap and so nice to be in touch with people all over the world.

A Surprise in the mail Today

Today I got a surprise in the Mail. I got my little bag from my partner in the Friendship bag swap. Her name is Gayly and she lives in Kansas. She also filled the bag with goodies. Altoids, tea bags and Hot Cocoa mix which will come in handy. she sent me 2 postcards and a nice note. I love the colors on the bag. The fabric with the roses is beautiful. Thank you so much Gayly. This was a fun swap.

Final Angel Project from Sue Daley

Sue Daley from Sue Daley Designs and Busyfingers Patchwork brings us our final angel project today. Sue is the Queen of English paper piecing and she has designed this cute little pincushion to add to your collection. But be careful, if you haven't paper pieced before you may be come addicted.
English paper pieced Pincushion
Follow the general EPP instructions to cut and tack the pieces.
Download Playing with Paper General Instructions
Sew them together as shown in the diagram.
NOTE: Try fussy cutting your fabric by cutting each elongated hexagon shape on the same pattern repeat.
Requirements:
Small pieces of fabrics
Fibre fill
8 – 1” elongated hexagon pre-cut papers
2 – 1” square pre-cut papers
2 buttons.
Embroidery floss

My First Attempt

This is my first attempt at designing something for my Stitcher's Angel Partner. I am going to put this on a Rotary Cutter pouch that I am making. I hadn't tried making my own designs before.

WHERE DID WE BEGIN/

This is a story on how we all began quilting. I found this on Daisy Quilts. If you want to contribute, go there and add your story.
I am 72 years old and have been sewing for as long as I can remember. My mother told me that when I was a baby, I was so small that she couldn't find anything to fit me and so made all my clothes. She didn't have a sewing machine and sewed everything by hand. I remember her making clothes for my dolls by hand. That was when I first became a sewer. Due to finances, when I was in school, I made a lot of my own clothes. When I married and had children, I made their clothes also. I made my daughter's wedding dress and my DIL's wedding dress.
My oldest daughter, a few years ago became interested in quilting and as I started buying things for her, I started reading about quilting and thought it was something that I would try. I retired 5 years ago and with time to do anything I wanted, I took up quilting. I love the piecing part of it, although the quilting leaves a lot to be desired but with practice, I will improve. That's my little story.
